Gerrard delighted with Bellamy

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says he is delighted that the club has signed Craig Bellamy.

The £6million signing from Blackburn Rovers is a controversial character but Gerrard believes he's the ideal man to lead the attack.

Gerrard said: 'It doesn't do anyone any harm to have a player with what you might call a bit of a nasty streak, in a good way.

'We all know he's got a bit of character about him, and the one thing everyone can see is he's got a real winning mentality. That's something you've got to have to play for Liverpool.

'The most important thing about him is he is a top class player.

'When all the Liverpool lads out here in Germany heard the deal had gone through, all of us were really happy.

'With Djibril Cisse suffering that bad injury, everyone can see we're a bit short up front. To bring in a player of Craig's strength and pace, with a good goalscoring record, is great news.

'I was made up when we were first linked with Craig Bellamy, because I've always thought he was a top quality player.

'I've never met him other than during a match, but I've had a few arguments"

Socceroos hero Harry Kewell has dedicated the goal that fired Australia into the knock-out stages of the World Cup for the first time in their history to Liverpool team-mate Djibril Cisse.

Kewell scored a vital equaliser last night against Croatia that keeps the Aussies in the competition but while all the attention has been on him, he wanted to remind people of a Red back home that missed out on the finals.

Harry said: 'It was fantastic for me to score that goal. But I would like to dedicate it to my friend Djibril, who broke his leg and should have been at the World Cup.

'I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery. You don't like to see that happen to any footballer.

'It was heartache for me because he is a close friend. That goal was for him.'

Brazilian legend praises Gerrard

Brazilian legend Pele has said England and Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has been the best player in the world for the last 5 years.

'The fans, they look only for forwards, always a forward,' Pele told Sky Sports News. 'Somebody who scores.

'Sometimes you have a player like Gerrard.

'For me, for the last five years Gerrard has been the best player in the world.

'He is a midfielder, he plays very good. People didn't mention Gerrard, now they mention Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Messi because they are forwards.'
